Practice Focus

Dmitri Evseev is a partner in the international arbitration and litigation practice groups of Arnold & Porter LLP. He concentrates his practice in the representation of sovereigns and private clients in international arbitration proceedings, including commercial and investor-state disputes under the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), American Arbitration Association (AAA), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), and Swiss Chambers' Rules.

Mr. Evseev is Russian-English bilingual, fluent in Spanish and conversant in French. Geographically, he focuses on representing clients from Russia, Eastern Europe, the Commonwealth of Independent States, and Latin America.

Mr. Evseev graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 2001, serving as Publishing Editor of the Harvard Law Review and as Research Chair at the Appleseed Center for Electoral Reform. After law school, he completed a clerkship for the Honorable Bruce M. Selya on the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.

  • Represents Republic of Hungary in AESv. Hungary and Electrabel v. Hungary Energy Charter Treaty investment arbitration claims totaling several hundred million US dollars.
  • Represents Venezuela in Vannessa Venturesv. Venezuela bilateral investment treaty arbitration claim under ICSID Additional Facility Rules for over US$ 1 billion in damages.
  • Represents Venezuela in litigation proceedings in the US federal courts. 
  • Represented a major Russian metals producer in two Swiss Chambers arbitration proceedings in Zurich.
  • Advised a large Russian company with regard to a potential international investment arbitration challenging an anti-monopoly decision of a foreign antitrust authority.
  • Advised a Russian-owned oil company in relation to international enforcement of a Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MKAS) arbitration award.
  • Represented a Chilean investor in an investment arbitration proceeding against Venezuela.
  • Represented an Asian State in connection with an investment arbitration claim by a foreign airport construction company.
  • Represented a multinational provider of communications technology in a Geneva-based ICC arbitration against a Colombian state-owned company.
  • Represented a group of major television networks in successful claim against satellite television programming, and helped obtain the highest attorneys fees award ever made in a copyright infringement case.
