Essential to core business processes, marketplace success, and business continuity planning and disaster preparedness are strong policies, procedures, and technical methods for protection of information. Arnold & Porter LLP’s information security team represents technology and business leaders in pursuing business strategies, responding to government requirements and initiatives, and offering products and services relating to information security, the investigation and prosecution of computer crime, and the conduct of electronic surveillance.

We bring together a team of lawyers with in-depth experience in information security and policy law, legal, and regulatory regimes applicable to key industries, business concerns of those industries, and white collar investigations and defense. Our information security team has extensive experience both in private practice and in senior government policymaking, legal compliance, prosecutorial, and criminal defense positions. This includes experience in the US Congress (Ranking Member, House Committee on Homeland Security), the National Security Council (Senior Associate Counsel to the President and Legal Adviser), the National Security Agency (General Counsel), the US Department of Justice (Associate Deputy Attorney General), the Central Intelligence Agency (General Counsel), the US Food and Drug Administration (Associate Chief Counsel for Drugs, General Counsel for Litigation, and Associate Chief Counsel for Enforcement, Office of Chief Counsel), the Federal Communications Commission (Chief of Common Carrier Bureau), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (Chief Counsel), Major Crimes and Computer Hacking/Intellectual Property Unit at the US Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of New York (Chief), and the DC Public Defender Service.

In addition, because information security, computer crime, and electronic surveillance matters frequently involve data privacy law, Arnold & Porter utilizes its team of privacy lawyers as a complement to those principally involved in information security matters. This provides clients with an integrated, efficient, and responsible representation from both short- and long-term business perspectives.
